John, I’m late on this thread but I’ll chime in. I have researched this pack rifle you are wondering about and based on a couple of reviews I’ve read I don’t think I’d go for it, personally. It’s pretty neat, but I don’t care for it’s structure and look. Just a little too pen-like for me. I do like the rifles listed below, none of which come close to the reduced weight of the one you’re looking at.

The Little Badger has surprisingly good reviews on youtube, as does the Savage Rascal. The Marlin is heavier than both but a pretty neat pack rifle in it’s own. I usually spot grouse fairly close to me so I carry an ultralight .22 revolver after Sept. 1st.

At least there is one there that is worth trying to cast. It has a solid green spacer on the reel seat, there is no logo, and the writing is black. But it looks like it is in good shape, overall.

        Thanks, Jed, Ben, and Pete.

In a raft, I have not been happy with a chest pack OR a vest. I now have a lanyard and will be trying that this summer. You can borrow mine to try if you’d like. One of these things can be made from bead store stuff for a couple of clams.

I made one, Alli, but the darn thing keeps flopping around even with the roach clip pinned to my shirt. Maybe I butchered the job. I’ll give them another look.

          Thanks,

Andy, I have tried several things and seem to always come back to stuffing things in my shirt or on my lap. So far my favorite is to have a small fanny pack reversed so it’s sitting on my belly. I don’t like wearing fly vests in my raft. I’ve come very close to buying a Cabelas chest pack several times. This model is small and light yet seems to carry more than enough stuff: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?id=0004281&navCount=1&parentId=cat370015&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20431-cat370015_TGP&parentType=index&indexId=cat370015&rid=

Jim, I sure and sorry I didn’t see this message earlier. I’m an upland hunter also, and I did my first turkey hunt in April north of Kettle Falls. I didn’t get any shots but I was somewhat successful calling them in. I never imagined turkey hunting could be so much fun. I know a guy (non-hunter) who saw several turkeys in the Teaneway area just a few weeks ago. Did you make it out hunting?

Wonder if my setter can point a turkey?

No, not a lefty, but shoot lefty due to dominant eye. So, if these rigs are LH I’ll stop by. Thanks Pat.

Josh, what kind of underwater camera were you using? That’s a great video.

I have a Seylor I keep as a backup boat, but I’ve had some bad luck with them ripping at one of the seams as I was inflating it. I’ve heard enough bad stories about them that I won’t use it unless I’m really desperate. On the other hand, my hiking buddy has used one for years and has had no problems whatsoever.

Bob, I just saw this post of yours, sorry for not responding sooner. You know what, Pete Smith helped me out last year and set me up in a pair of Asolo boots and I’ve been good ever since. If my feet get any wider I’ll probably have to go for custom, though. I still have that pair of old Raichle Rontondos.

Hans, I think the thing that I admire about you is that you don’t disbelieve. I feel the same way. I think there are things in this world that humans will never really know about and science won’t be able to explain.

Rob, I work about five blocks from UWMC, just south of the Montlake bridge. I’m driving in tomorrow and you can ride with me to the meeting and back, if you would like. I don’t want to post my phone number on a public forum, but you can find it in the HL roster.

Some of you may have guessed (or know) that I’m temporarly up here at UWMC battling cancer. Actually thought maybe I saw Rex and Yanglin in the Cafeteria the other day. Anyway should have stuff in remission in a couple of weeks and then can at least think about some Westslope or Searun Cutthroat!!!! Maybe can arrange to attend both a Club meeting and a cancer meeting on the same day….

Mcmahon – do you use a leader for your 4 lb Crystal line? Also, do you use the conventional improved clinch knot with this line, or the palomar? The original Firelines that came out years ago suggested the palomar knot due to the finish on the line. Have you noticed any wear & tear on your guides?
