Kathy – There is a good place to camp at Venus. I did the loop from Waptus – Shovel – Rebecca – Rowena – (side to La Bohns) – Venus – Spade – out, with Gerry Ring-Erickson a bunch of years ago. Just down from the saddle on the west side of the lake is a nice bench about 30 feet above the lake. Will hold 3 or 4 tents. Huge wind storm came through at night and flattened my tent, but it still was a good camp spot! Venus has the best fish in the area.
– PeteDarren – Do you need an RSVP reply for food amount guessing? I’ll be there.
Remember – we need to be somewhat covert with snacks as the MICC does not want groups bringing in food, unless that has changed recently?
Pass Lk has some very large chironomid in it – called by the folks who fish it – Pass Lk Giants or Magnums. I can’t think of anything else that may have been in the surface film. Did you see any large shucks on the surface?
Mike – I really do love to do my trips up in BC. Several of the places I went I had all to my self. Some guys/gals like to have company all the time and some like to by alone. I sort of go both ways. I enjoy the places where I have folks to talk to, but I don’t mind being all to myself either. Here’s the biggest brookie I got on the trip. I still think the other one is more impressive, but this one was bigger. The picture isn’t so good, but the important part is centered nicely! The boat still hasn’t learned to make the framing adjustments, but it’s learning.
I can only giggle when I think of the materials that would go into tying the green “booger”. Congratulations to William on his first fish!
Yes – this was a solo trip. I’m the only one in the family who thinks solid fishing for 10 days is something fun to do. And yes, I can go anywhere I want and when I want. Just me and the loons.
Here’s few of the camps I had. I use a construction weight tarp that is about 20X20. Has held up to some pretty big winds.
You are all very welcome. Glad it worked out.
– PeteAli – You’re not serious are you? MI is “out in the boondocks”?
Bob – Ken is right. Lots of colors of wire. I use mostly black, red, silver and copper.
Glad you’re enjoying the book. I have quite a few of his books.
I’d be happy to talk to you about fishing chironomids. I do have Brian Chan’s DVD on the subject which you might want to borrow sometime. Very complete coverage.<

You’d think that would be pretty easy to work out, wouldn’t you? When I started doing it I somehow didn’t think about just weighing the bucket of lead first before I melted it. I DO know better now!Sandy, your notes look almost exactly like my earlier by law suggestion except you have the prez doing the calling and I have the BOT doing that. Yours is more cut and dried and I like that.
Ali – As Mick points out, the social events are part of being a TB, but are separate from the meeting requirement. The Winter Social is fun, but no business is conducted. I’m not in favor of other activities taking the place of meetings.
Point taken. I’ll agree with that.
Just one correction: << building his own wooden forms, melting the lead over a Coleman stove in an old coffee can, and then pouring the melt into the forms.>>
Pouring molten lead into a wooden form may not work too well. Lots of smoke! I made a form from metal which I sink in a bucket of sand to hold it up. Works like a charm except it’s hard to estimate how much lead to use for a 7-9 lb anchor when it’s all in a hunk to start. I did have to re-melt one anchor which ended up about 12 lbs to start. Not going to drag anchor with that baby holding you, but I didn’t want to rip off my transom lifting it from the bottom either! -
