“Ross & I hiked into Trout Lake on 6/14/02. The river crossing below the slide is pretty high, be careful with dogs or children. We hit a 30′ patch of snow at the outlet, but other than that there was only a few patches of snow around the north end of the lake. The lake was clear and calm, and we didn’t see a single rise, nor did we have any luck fishing from the bank either Friday evening or early Saturday morning. My understanding is Copper is completely under snow and Malachite is mostly snow covered. “

“It makes sense that the upper lakes would be frozen. I’ve been up there over Fourth of July weekend and they were still frozen solid. In fact, we built and slept in an igloo at Copper Lake on that trip. The igloo did quite a bit of melting overnight, but it still held us sitting on top the next morning.”
